Teething is a normal and necessary problem for all puppies, including Golden Retrievers. However, that doesn’t mean some problems won’t arise. Teething can be difficult for both puppy and owner. Thankfully, though, there are ways you can make this process easier.
Excessive chewing
Chewing is normal for dogs, but during teething, that instinct goes into overdrive. You may find that your puppy is chewing all your belongings. When this happens, it’s best to provide as many things for them to chew as possible. Toys and bones are a great start.
Drooling
Teething causes a bit of discomfort and irritation in the gums. As such, saliva production increases, as does drooling. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about this except wait it out. Just remember that drooling is a common side effect of teething, and it normally goes away on its own.
Discomfort
As we said, teething can cause some discomfort in the gums. Soreness and inflammation are both common. Give your puppy soft foods, chew toys, and a cold compress to relieve painful gums. Additionally, while some discomfort is always common, if your puppy is in true pain, you’ll want to take them to the vet.
